Intergenerational Homesharing Coming to Central Ohio

Intergenerational homesharing is an innovative solution at the convergence of several issues. Older adults want to age in place. Half of adults over the age of 65 will live alone, leaving many individuals house-rich and cash-poor. Half of all renters are paying too much rent for a healthy budget. Nesterly Central Ohio will ease these pressures and provide a platform for mutually beneficial intergenerational friendships.

Nesterly Central Ohio is the result of a partnership between COAAA, Nesterly and Age Friendly Columbus, and its primary goal is to deliver a safe and simple way to rent a room. Nesterly Central Ohio will offer legal and customizable rental agreements, full background checks of potential guests, a secure automated payment system, and ongoing support to ensure a successful relationship.

Homesharing is not intended to accommodate short-term visits, and each booking will be for a minimum of one month. Agreements are fully customizable, and hosts will have the option to benefit from additional help around the home by offering a lower rent to guests willing to perform light household tasks.

COAAA is thrilled to offer this program, which benefits hosts and guests alike. Guests are provided with affordable rent while owners earn additional income, and both parties are afforded a unique opportunity for a new friendship. WOSU recently covered intergenerational homesharing, and you can learn more about their local perspective here.
