Ohio now offers another long-term care option for adults with Medicaid. The Assisted Living Waiver Program pays the costs of care in an Assisted Living facility. The consumer is responsible for "room and board" expenses.

The program is open to individuals currently residing in a nursing home or enrolled on another home and community-based waiver program (such as PASSPORT, Choices, or the Ohio Home Care waiver). Participants must be financially eligible for Medicaid and determined by COAAA to need a "nursing facility level of care," the same requirements as for our PASSPORT program.

Eligible consumers can select from any participating licensed assisted living provider.

It's another way to provide senior housing options that are alternatives to nursing home care. Those interested in participating in the waiver may call COAAA at 614-645-7250 or 1-800-589-7277.

PROVIDERS: Licensed Ohio Residential Care Facilities interested in becoming an Assisted Living provider, please call Linda Gillespie or Tracy Moebius at 614-645-7250 or 1-800-589-7277.

PASSPORT receives 99% approval rating

Consumers gave Ohio’s 12 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) a better than 99% approval rating on their management of the PASSPORT program throughout 2011.  On January 30, the Ohio Department of Aging released data reporting results of its consumer satisfaction survey for the entire state.

Consumers rated their satisfaction through participation in programs offered by AAAs at over 99% statewide.

“We are passionate about providing information to individuals and family members and helping them navigate through a complex system of care when they need it most," said Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging Director Cindy Farson.

"Our employees work very hard to respond to the needs of frail people who rely on in-home services, like PASSPORT, to remain in their communities.”
