A message from Cindy Farson, director of COAAA:

The Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA) is committed to serving older adults and individuals with disabilities in our eight-county region of Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Union. While we will continue to connect consumers to services and resources that help them stay safe and healthy in their homes and communities, ensuring the health of our consumers and staff is of the utmost importance to COAAA. We are closely monitoring the ever-changing developments of COVID-19, commonly known as Coronavirus. The State of Ohio is taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus, and we are following the guidance and recommendations of state and health experts to prevent illness.

To ensure the health and safety of COAAA consumers and staff, COAAA is taking the following preventative actions:

  • We are implementing appropriate remote work options, flexible or staggered schedules, isolated work spaces, and physical distancing to help keep everyone safe while we maintain services for consumers.
  • Case managers will contact consumers by phone using established frequency protocols. Home visits will be severely restricted during the immediate future.
  • We are working closely with providers to ensure that assistance or services are delivered as appropriate to consumers.
  • Deep cleaning of our shared spaces was conducted over the weekend and we are supplying hand sanitizer and surface cleaners for individual staff use.
  • Meetings and trainings with external partners or outside visitors have been suspended for the immediate future. Internal meetings will follow physical distancing protocols.
  • We will continue to provide assistance to individuals who visit our office while practicing appropriate health measures.

We can all take proper prevention measures to stop the spread of the virus. Here are tips from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH):

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  Dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home if you’re sick.
  • Avoid contact with other sick people.
